Cornerstone

When the Archdiocese of Cardiff purchased the former Ebenezer Chapel in 2012, Archbishop George Stack had a vision of turning the historic building into a ‘Cornerstone’ of heritage and activity for the city and people of Cardiff.

“The chapel is situated opposite St David’s Cathedral. It is this location which has been an important element in its acquisition. The purchase by the Catholic Archdiocese will ensure the social, cultural, architectural and religious heritage of this historic building and the Catholic story of the area is restored in stone and preserved by the Cornerstone project” – Archbishop George Stack.

Following a successful £1.2 million Heritage Lottery Fund bid and support from the Hodge Foundation the vision of Cornerstone came into being over the next two and a half years. The renovation of this historical building has ensured its survival for many years into the future and has provided a springboard for the next 100 years of the Archdiocese of Cardiff. Cornerstone was officially opened by His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales in December 2016.
